    Barletta and the Unification of Italy

    On June 25, 1866, Menotti Garibaldi, Giuseppe's son, made a triumphant entry by stepping off the train at the Barletta station and was greeted by a wave of popular enthusiasm. The city firmly sided with the Risorgimento and actively contributed to the construction of the new nation. Italian unification was experienced by Barletta in the role of a leader for Southern Italy.
