History and Meaning

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sterpeto is one of the most cherished places of worship for the people of Barletta. Located just outside the city, it houses an ancient and venerated icon of the Virgin Mary, found according to tradition among brushwood ("sterpi") following the plague of 1656. Recently elevated to a Minor Basilica, it represents the spiritual heart dedicated to the city's Patron Saint.
