History and Meaning
Porta Marina is the only surviving city gate of Barletta's ancient defensive walls. Rebuilt in 1751 during the reign of Charles III of Bourbon, the gate served as a strategic passage between the fortified city and the port area. Today, it overlooks the picturesque Piazza Marina and stands as one of the most recognizable symbols of the city's architecture and historic maritime heritage.
