History and Meaning
Located on the western breakwater, the old lighthouse of Barletta, also known as the "Napoleonic" lighthouse, is considered the oldest in the Adriatic and one of the longest-serving in Italy. Founded in 1750 and rebuilt in 1807 by order of Joseph Bonaparte, when the port was a crucial hub in the Mediterranean, it was deactivated in 1959 following the activation of the New Lighthouse. The structure is currently managed by the Port Authority and is not open to visitors at the moment.
