History and Meaning
The Barletta Castle is one of the most impressive and important fortifications in Apulia. Originating as a Norman fortress in the 11th century, it was significantly expanded and transformed under the rule of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia. Today, it houses the Civic Museum.
